No words

Feel free to ignore this post until Tuesday or just comment.

Gods I am so tired of this stuff.

I just saw Ohio has a bill pass around the topic of abortion. Not unusual, my issue with it is that it's a heart beat bill. Ohio has laws about it already, this would move it from just informing the parent of the statistics of survival and the presence of a heartbeat to a ban of abortion after detecting a heartbeat. This detection can happen at 6 weeks. Georgia also has a similar bill.

My heart goes out to women who don't have a choice. Feel free to ask me to elaborate, I don't have the energy to type out how angry it makes me.

  1. Emma, I feel your pain. Since Roe v. Wade (in the 70's) abortion seems to be a hot topic in politics but I wonder what, in particular, is the reason this issue seems to catch so much attention and talk?
Is it because this seems to be an issue that is grounded in science which as we have learned all throughout this course, is developing so quickly and often misunderstood.

Also another point, how do we continue reaffirming the belief of separation of church and state if as a country we give a moral upper hand to religious entities and supporters. Just my two cents, I would like to hear your thoughts, Emma.

    1. The moral nature of it is based in the lack of understanding when it comes to consciousness. Not just the thoughtful nature of someone but the light behind one's eyes, the intelligence, the soul for lack of a better term. A heart beat is a sign that the cells have organized in one part of the blastula now embryo. It says nothing to congenital defects, the trauma of the creation, or the social or financial fitness of the parent. Preventing death is only politically safe for conservatives if the death was not going to happen already due to social constraints. In my mind of course.
The church can have it's ethos, declaring people in those places of power morally corrupt only feeds the fire of the ardent followers. This country needs to be reminded that there is a lot more variety in the world other than the ideas of just the west.
Luckily, not all states think the same and we had some lawsuits that are pushing back these limitations, see this article about a NC case.(https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2019/03/26/north-carolinas-week-abortion-ban-is-unconstitutional-federal-judge-rules/?utm_term=.3ea706a67ae5)
