There is tension in the air we look towards the situation happening currently between the Ukraine and Russia.

Two days ago, Putin gave a press conference where he threatened continued bloodshed in the Ukraine if they don't surrender to the troops he is sending. With the Ukraine being backed by the United States, this could escalate very quickly, and the consequences could be deterimental.
The world is still recovering from medical supply chain issues that arose due to the pandemic. With this in mind, how do you think that market will be affected by a world war? Can we afford a war? Will it cause our worldwide progress past covid to regress?
Let me know your thoughts.
The virtual, misinformation, hacking, sanctioning, media driven WWIII started many years ago... Putin took Crimea without starting a shooting war. He will probably be handed part of Ukraine without starting WWIII. However, if he goes further into Ukraine, I will say that the world is definitely at risk of sliding into WWIII. How is it that desperate, fearful, egomaniacal, sociopathic, deranged people instead of competent, stable, empathetic, (the best and the brightest) people seem to end up in leadership these days?
ReplyDeleteI'm the furthest thing from an expert when it comes to foreign policy, but from what I've seen, this is definitely a rich man's war. Young Ukrainian and Russian soldiers will needlessly perish, and countries all over the globe are ready to offer their young soldiers. I don't think any country can afford a war, economically or morally, but with the added threat of the Coronavirus it's a greater cost to every single person, civilian or otherwise. The world is so interconnected with alliances and agreements, it's very reminiscent of WWI. I hope with newly implemented organizations like the UN we can avoid a world war three.
ReplyDeleteThese are scary times for everyone. I can only hope that with political and economic sanctions that Russia will be deterred. I've seen videos of bombings and families terrified in Ukraine all over my social media. I hope things don't escalate!
ReplyDeleteI am not excited to see the end of this war. Because I know Putin clearly threatened nuclear action against any foreigner who dared intrude. I am also wondering if China will begin a campaign against taiwan now, or if it will hold off. This is a dark day but hopefully we can get out of it with as few deaths as possible.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very pressing topic to discuss, and while I won't be able to participate since I'll be watching from online, I hope you guys get the chance to discuss it today and I'm interesting in your opinions on the subject.
ReplyDeleteThis situation is escalating so quickly. With the world just slightly recovering from the economic impacts of Covid, this is turning into another horrible situation. Like Claire said, this is a rich man's war.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you and Claire's point of this being a rich man's war. War only brings more issues and distress onto society, and with our economy going the way it's going, we can not afford anymore issues. Hopefully we get out of this with the best possible outcome.
DeleteMay mercy be with all those affected. The gain from such an act is astronomically insignificant prospective of risk. With no backlash, China will undoubtedly take Taiwan. With backlash, the superpower might unhinge.
