The Ethics of Organ Allocation

Hello!

Today I will be presenting on the ethics of organ allocation. I will be specifically focusing on deceased organ donations.

Here are the main points I will be reviewing:

-Overview of the organ donation and transplantation process

-Transplant regions in the United States

-How to get on the transplant waitlist

-The three primary ethical issues (utility, justice, and respect for persons)

-Resolution of conflict among principles

Here are the questions/topics we will be discussing in class:

1) Should people be allowed on multiple waitlists?

2) Who is "worthy" of a transplant?

3) Opt-in vs. opt-out laws

So excited for your presentation, Hursha! The ethics surrounding organ allocation are really interesting to think about and very relevant in the modern era (and it will continue to be so!)
