Young Child "cured" of HIV infection: first of its kind.

Read the article HIV Patient about a young pediatric patient who was miraculously able to fight off HIV using only antiviral medication.  Leading scientists on the report make note that this is a perfect opportunity, and reason, to explore more differences in the immunity of young individuals compared to adults.  I hope discoveries of this sort get you as excited as they do me.

  1. I heard a physician commenting on this on the radio, raising the question as the whether the infant's HIV was "cured" or "prevented"... something about whether a "reservoir" had formed etc. Still, a signal achievement if confirmed.

  2. I'm glad you posted this. I remembered you mentioning it a while back but I had forgotten to look it up. This is indeed exciting and hopefully will lead to some new advances in the treatment of HIV. It will be interesting to see what differences they find between infant and adult immune response. This will be a good study to watch as it develops.
