  3. I've been absent all this week, but I'll still include some questions on here for our study guide. Messed up my knee while jogging with my puppy--that'll teach me to wear the wrong shoes for running!

FQ for Chapters 8/9: Name one of the many important applications and products that Venter and his team were seeking to develop, announced alongside the first functioning synthetic genome at their press conference on May 20, 2010 (also the release of their publication):
biofuels, pharmaceuticals, clean water, and food products. (p. 126)
(Oliver, doctor up this question to your heart's content if you choose to use it--it's messy! :P)

FQ for Chapter 10: Which American systems biologist from Stanfard University was responsible for the most recent work on Mycoplasma genitalium?
    Markus W. Covert (p. 143)

FQ for Chapters 11/12: What television series popularized the idea of the transporter?
    Star Trek (p. 160)

DQ: How do you feel about the concept of destroying yourself, then recreating yourself, particle by particle, in order to be transported? Is this something you'd be willing to risk?
