Being Mortal: The Independent Self 4/2/2015

FQ:  Veneration of elders has been replaced with veneration of what in modern times? (AG 22)

DQ:  To what point should the elderly maintain independence?  At what point is it acceptable to take away the driver's license?

Here is a relevant article explaining how to care for elderly family members.  It also explains how to talk about the issue with them and maintain their independence.

I believe that elderly people can maintain independence as long as they do not have debilitating diseases. However, I do understand that there is a point to which they are so old where they cannot take care of themselves; as they get around their 90s or 100s, it gets much harder for them to take care of themselves.
