Medical Cannabis

The legalization of CBD-rich cannabis is a very controversial bioethical topic. Many people believe that marijuana is a gateway drug to others more hardcore drugs. This opinion leads many people to believe that it is unethical to legalize such a “dangerous” drug. However, with CBD-rich cannabis the high feeling is practically eradicated; yet people still believe that it is unethical to allow people to use the medical properties of this plant to treat symptoms of illnesses such as seizures due to epilepsy. Around one in every twenty-six Americans will develop epilepsy at some point in their lives. The most prominent symptom of epilepsy is constant seizers that may last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Many different treatments for these reoccurring seizures include medication, diets, and brain surgeries; however, one of the most effective treatments has recently been discovered to be CBD-rich cannabis extract. CBD, short for cannabidiol, rich cannabis has been proven through research to have analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties without the psychoactive effects (the "high" or "stoned" feeling) that THC provides. Scientific experiments show that medical cannabis is a safe and effective treatment for epilepsy, yet it is still illegal to use this drug medically in over twenty-five states. The next instalments will go more in-depth with how this issue is arises an interesting bioethical discussion and describe a real life story of how cannabis helped someone overcome seizures do to epilepsy.

I'm pretty sure legalization of medical applications is coming, and eventually recreational use. Just a question of when, and of who the last holdouts will be. (My money's on Alabama & Mississippi - but don't sell TN short, we have some amazing state legislators.)

They work with herbs
